Maggie Valley Area Info
Maggie Valley North Carolina Scenic Photo Maggie Valley is blessed
with the ideal year-round climate, beautiful mountain scenery and warm
Southern hospitality. Proud of our southern mountain heritage, we are
building the future with a concern for preserving the past. We're far
enough south that spring comes pretty early, bringing a fantastic
display of natural blooming beauty to the mountainsides as Dogwood,
Redbud Trees and an amazing number of wildflowers put on their show.
Our Summer heat is tempered by our cool mountain elevations and
evening tempuratures drop to create some of the most relaxing evening
environments. In the fall our hardwood forests put on a spectacular
fall foliage color display attracting more Visitors than other time of
the year. The winter brings a quiet, slower season while providing us
with some of the best skiing in the south.
About 40% of our County is occupied by the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park, Pisgah National Forest and the Harmon Den Wildlife
Refuge, where the Blue Ridge Parkway meets the Great Smoky Mountains.
The central part of the county is well suited for business and
agriculture and is easily accessible to major population centers of
the east and southeast U.S. - Our location is a major feature. Haywood
County encompasses 546 square miles and has a population of about
52,000. There are four incorporated towns: Waynesville, Maggie Valley,
Canton, and Clyde. With a mild southern climate and cool mountain
elevations ranging to over 6000 feet, Haywood County is an excellent
location any time of the year for business or recreation. Look at the
weather forecast for today in Maggie Valley.

Enclosed is a 2001 Craft Festivals application. Please read the
following information carefully - failure to properly complete the
application will result in a delay in processing.
1. The application deadline is August 1st. After that date, space
assignments will be made for BOTH the September and November shows
based on the type of craft, type of space requested and date
application is received. Not all applications can be accepted. To
assure the finest variety of crafts are offered at our festivals,
it is necessary to limit the number of each type of item the
number of each type of craft displayed. Our shows are limited to
100 booths and we strive to have a wide variety of high quality
crafts each year to encourage new customers to our festivals.
2. Space sizes vary and are priced accordingly. We are not able to
give exact specifications due to the limited spaces of some
properties. These areas are generally smaller or larger but will
be approximately either 10' x 10' or 8' x 8' in size. Restroom
facilities will be provided.
3. ALL crafts are to be made personally by the applicant. NO
manufactured items will be allowed. This will be strictly
enforced. Any crafter deemed to be violating this requirement will
be asked to leave and you will forfeit your application fee. The
crafter is required to be present to sell items in his or her
booth, and demonstrations are encouraged if possible. The total
number of people manning a booth is limited to three (3). No pets
are allowed.
4. DO NOT SEND A DEPOSIT WITH YOUR APPLICATION!! When you receive
your conformation notice, you will be expected to remit full
payment for all confirmed show dates for the year 2001. This
payment in full is due no later than September 1st, 2001. Spaces
will be reassigned if full payment is not received by that date.
No reminders will be sent. Checks returned for any reason will
void your eligibility for the show(s). If you must cancel, your
application fee will be returned to you if we are notified in time
to resell your space(s). NO refunds will be made within twenty
(20) days of the show. Your cancelled check is your receipt.
5. Fill in all the information requested on the application and
please use your own name, not your business name. Indicate your
preference when requesting both shows in case both are not
available. If both shows are not available you will be notified in
writing as to which show you will get.
6. IMPORTANT!! The check in station will be at the Holiday Motel
located at 3289 Soco Rd. Check in will start at 9:00 Friday
morning before either show and end at 6:00 pm. Check in will
resume at 6:30 Saturday morning for crafters who wish to set up
that morning. REMEMBER!! Your booth must be manned and operational
by 9:00 Saturday morning! Advance reservations for accommodations
are STRONGLY recommended.
7. ALL crafters, regardless, are required to submit photos of their
work. No crafter is guaranteed admission, however because the fair
will be stretched out over approximately two miles, placement of
crafters with like types of displays may be possible. Please
provide a legal SASE if you need to have your photos returned
after review.
8. WE DO NOT HAVE LONG DISTANCE PHONE SERVICE TO CONTACT YOU. If you
need assistance call, write, fax or email the numbers listed
below.
Contacts: Debra & Richard Pierce
Phone 828-926-1186
Fax 828-926-9517

9. WATER AND ELECTRIC ARE NOT SUPPLIED. If you need these you must
furnish them yourselves. The individual business are donating
their property to you and they are not to be disturbed for any
reason. You are responsible for your own security.
We sincerely hope that these shows will be a success. We feel that the
amount of traffic on Hwy. 19 will in itself help to bring patrons to
your booth but we will have advertising in place by radio, newspaper,
Internet and possibly television. Debbie and I hope to continue into
the future to bring crafters and patrons into the Valley 3-4 times per
year. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any ideas you may have
to make these events a success. Also, if you know of other crafters
who may be interested please have them contact us.

GOVERNMENT
HAYWOOD COUNTY:
Government is under the direction of four county commissioners and a
chairman. The commissioners set policies and conduct much of the
county's budget through a county manager. County manager is Jack
Horton. (452-6625). See also the government section of the Haywood
County Community Network.
CANTON:
The Town of Canton's government is directed by a board of four
aldermen and the mayor. A town manager oversees day-to-day operations
of the town. Town Manager is Bill Stamey (648-2363)
MAGGIE VALLEY:
A board of four aldermen and mayor establish policy and adopt an
annual budget. Town manager is Al Matthews (926-0866)
WAYNESVILLE:
A board of four aldermen and mayor set policies and adopt the annual
budget. Town manager is Lee Galloway (452-2491). Hazelwood was
incorporated into the Town of Waynesville on July 1, 1995.
ECONOMY
Manufacturing and tourism are Haywood County's major industries,
followed by agriculture and the service industry.
Blue Ridge Paper Products, with a large paper manufacturing mill in
Canton and a smaller finishing operation in Waynesville, provide
employment for approximately 1,500 people. The Canton mill recently
completed a $330,000,000 modernization program that moved it to the
forefront of the paper-making technology.
Lea Industries/Ladd Furniture Plant, with 425 employees, produces
bedroom furniture for shipment throughout the country. Wellco
Enterprises produces boots for the military. Its 150 employees made
combat boots for personnel involved in Operation Desert Storm.
Further diversification is evident in the variety of products
manufactured by other industries: Epsom salt, textile labels, wood
products, surgical drapes, and catalytic converters.
The natural beauty of the area, mild year round climate, easy
accessibility by major highways, and the nearby Asheville Regional
Airport have attracted many visitors to the area, making tourism the
county's second largest industry.
While the number of people working farms has declined, agriculture
still is a strong part of the county's overall economy. Beef and dairy
cattle, sheep, swine, and the growing of tomatoes and apples are
major agricultural thrusts.
The service industry also has become an ever-growing segment of the
local economy.
VOTING
To register to vote, a person must be ate least 18 years old on the
date of the election, register at least 30 days prior to an election,
and be a resident of the county for at least 30 days prior to an

Maggie Valley North CarolinaYou've earned it, time away to have fun
with the family in the Playland of the Smokies,
a town devoted entirely to your good times - Maggie Valley North
Carolina.
The fun begins at the top, a mile
high at "Ghost Town In The Sky."
Ride the chair lift or the incline
railway and step back in time to
the Old West where the good
guys always win. Take a whirl on
dozens of exciting rides,
including the "Red Devil," the
only roller coaster of it's kind,
built smack-dab into the
mountaintop. If you can open
your eyes, the views are
spectacular. Like a shiny
plaything in a ring of magic
mountains, Maggie Valley North Carolina Activities offers
everything
for
the
vacationing
family. You'll find swimming pools, ski
slopes, lush fairways, bluegrass music,
craft shops, whitewater rafting and
everything in between.
Here, children race go-carts, play miniature
golf and discover the animal wonders of
Soco Garden Zoo.
Watch world class cloggers at the
Stompin' Grounds, The "Clogging Capital
of the World."
Set your toes a 'tappin' and your hands to
clappin' at The Opry House. The spirit of
bluegrass was born in these mountains,
and Maggie Valley offers some of the best
Bluegrass Music around.
Local talent and National headliners step
into the spotlight at restaurants and
lounges, offering a variety of live
entertainment. While the kids are having
fun
the
grown-ups can enjoy the many shops
and galleries filled with handmade arts
& crafts, play a round of golf or hop
on a trusty steed for a unique
perspective on the mountains. Maggie
Valley has plenty of wonderful
