Utilities

Water is provided by the Maggie Valley Sanitary District. They are currently upgrading their facilities to keep up with the growing demands of residential and business customers. Sewer is provided by the Town of Maggie Valley. The Town has a contract with the Maggie Valley Sanitary District to operate and maintain the sewer system. There is approximately a quarter of a million gallons per day reserve in treatment capacity.

Electric Service is provided by Carolina Power and Light Company and Haywood Electric Membership Corporation.

Transportation

Maggie Valley is bisected by US-l9, a major north to south US-highway. We are five miles from exit 20 for east bound travelers on I-40, and are assessable for west bound travelers by exit 27 on I-40 to US-19&23 exit 103 (US-l9). The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scant three miles from our western boundary. The Parkway attracts thousands of visitors each year.

The county is served by twenty common carriers and contract carrier truck lines. Rail service is available to the area by Norfolk and Southern Railway, with the freight depot in Canton. Commercial air service is at the nearby Asheville Regional Airport where US Air and Delta are the carriers. They offer direct or connecting flights to most major US cities. Bus service is provided by Trailways Bus systems with the local stop three miles east of the corporate limit.

Communications

There are two local newspapers, the Enterprise Mountaineer, published tri-weekly, and the Asheville Citizens-Times, published daily. Other major newspapers are available through local vendors. The seven radio stations serving the area are WHCC and WQNS in Waynesville, WPTL and WWIT in Canton, WZRQ, WWNC and WKSF are in Asheville. Marcus Cable Television provides cable television service to Maggie Valley. Telephone service is provided by Bell South with all long distance providers available.
